Setting the Foundation: Why You're Not Losing Weight - Environment

In my last post, I discussed the first foundational element of having a changed mindset and its importance for adhering to a wellness program.  I will now discuss the next foundational element, the environment.  Creating an environment is a vital step we should not overlook when starting a wellness journey.  Your environment can make or break your journey.  Stumbling blocks often start in your very own home.  Think about the many calorie-dense foods filled with highly processed ingredients.  Or consider the sugar-filled sodas and juice beverages readily available for consumption after a long day's work. What about the drawer full of mini chocolates you keep stashed away in your drawer at work to grab when your highly stressful environment gets to you.

Your overall environment matters intensely.  Most people who remove barriers from their environment are more successful.  Evaluating and setting your environment can help mitigate the risks of experiencing a relapse.  This is why I chose the environment as the second most important factor in setting your foundation. Imagine having an environment so conducive that it makes your wellness journey a collaborative in-sync process instead of a barrier-intense struggle.

Take a moment to think about your environment and the role it currently plays within your wellness journey. Your environment is often a determinant of your success.  Without sweeping through your environment and eliminating problematic areas, you'll make your journey harder to overcome.

Take an opportunity today to analyze your environment. Identify problematic areas, such as cookies, overly processed snacks, sodas, or juices. Consider removing those hindrances. After analyzing, make a plan to begin removing those barriers. Or, if you have the means and want to be brave, remove the barriers immediately!

In my next post, I will discuss the final element in setting the foundation for your weight loss or wellness journey.

Be true, be balanced, be well.
